Srinagar, Oct 19 (KNO): The All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) and MBBS and BDS interns across Jammu and Kashmir are holding candle marches at Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) and SKIMS Bemina on Monday evening.
The protests aim to highlight the continued delay in the long-pending stipend hike.
An AIMSA representative told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the interns’ representatives met the Director General, Finance (Budget), and the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Health and Medical Education Minister at the Civil Secretariat on Monday.
He said the representatives expressed concern over contradictory statements regarding the status of the file, continued procedural delays and the absence of a formal government order.
The representative further said they raised concerns over discourteous treatment and warnings against those pursuing the demand. “Interns could not be expected to wait indefinitely after receiving written assurances,” AIMSA president Dr Mohammad Momin Khan told KNO.
The interns reiterated their demand for the government to honour its written commitment and issue the stipend enhancement order, warning that continued administrative inaction could lead to further peaceful protests—(KNO)
